Course Description
Popular culture evolves rapidly. Successful creators need not only solid foundational skills but also the ability to understand market trends and innovate continuously. Have you noticed the decline in mainstream Cantopop and Mandopop, while independent musicians and bands are rising? Why are Hip Hop and Douyin songs becoming increasingly popular? Their lyric-writing techniques differ significantly from traditional pop songs. What special skills are involved?
This course will also analyze award-winning songs from the prestigious Golden Melody Awards from the 1990s to the present day. All this knowledge and technique will be thoroughly explained and dissected by the experienced composer and lyricist, Lei Cheon Iat.
Instructor
Lei Cheon Iat – A renowned composer and lyricist in Hong Kong and Macau. He is a music theory instructor at the Macao Conservatory Music School and a composition & lyric writing instructor at the Hong Kong Berklee Music School.

- Understand and apply lyric writing techniques.
- Analyze various music genres and award-winning songs.
Target Audience
- Individuals aspiring to work in pop music production or with an interest in lyric writing.
- The course is taught in Cantonese.
- Note: Part 3 is a standalone course. Prior attendance of Part 1 or 2 is not required.
